Adsorbent mix

New mix of adsorbent microparticles

It is unanimous among papermakers that pitch and stickies are “villains” of productivity and product quality in pulp and paper mills.

Act on EFFECTS and on the CAUSES

The effective control of pitch and stickies in pulp and paper mills depends on innovative chemical and mechanical strategies for the continuous treatment of the mass, as it must not only act on the “effect” (when the deposit is already formed), but also on the “causes”. ” that lead to the formation of these deposits.

Advanced Adsorption Processes (PAAs) can provide a level of fixation never before desired with conventional solutions. However, talc, which had been the most popular adsorbent, is falling into disuse because it has a component considered carcinogenic (asbestos).

Contech®, in partnership with EcoSign®, helps its customers to increase productivity, reducing breaks, tears and spots on the paper. To face this new challenge, the following were developed:

NEW “MIX” OF ADSORBENT MICROPARTICLES
With alternative adjuvants such as enzymes, dispersants and/or polymers, with efficiency superior to talc, allowing its total replacement.
  • Adsorbents with complementary properties, preferably acting in pitch or stickies, modulated by the proportion of the “MIX”;
  • Lamellar structure distinct from conventional adsorbents (phyllosilicates);
  • Excellent for removing “anionic waste” that affects treatment;
  • Enhances both fixation and “detackfication”;
  • Displays unique organophilic property;
  • Organophilization in situ with Contech® polymer, maximizing the effect of fixing colloidal contaminants.

THERMODYNAMIC MIXER
Thermodynamic equipment called a “mixer” capable of promoting homogenization and friction between the slurries of adsorbent microparticles, maximizing the exposure of the active sites.

See the result of one of our customers:

Expressive reduction in the number of colloidal contaminants, leading to a reduction of macro contaminants (stickies) in the process responsible for holes and tears in the paper. It is also expected a reduction in downtime for cleaning the clothing system and the need for less aggressive chemicals for such cleaning, increasing the useful life of these components in the papermaking process. Significant reductions in conductivity and turbidity were also observed, evidencing the reduction of dissolved and colloidal compounds, keeping the “anionic waste” of the system under control.

Smart chemistry is one that achieves 70% efficiency while similar programs do not exceed 15%.
